The SoCal Fire Preparedness Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving wildfire preparedness, home resilience, emergency readiness, and long-term property protection throughout Southern California.
The SoCal Fire Home Resiliency Program™ is the Fund's homeowner preparedness initiative. The program helps homeowners evaluate their property's resilience profile and identify opportunities to improve preparedness and long-term insurability.
During wildfire events and Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events, electrical service may be interrupted for hours or even days.
Maintaining power during emergencies can help homeowners operate communications equipment, security systems, refrigeration, garage doors, water pumps, lighting, and other critical systems. Reliable backup power may also help support evacuation readiness and emergency response efforts.
The Fund has developed a resilience-focused Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program designed to support homeowner preparedness while contributing to grid reliability.
Unlike traditional programs that primarily focus on utility operations, the Fund's model is intended to prioritize homeowner resilience by maintaining meaningful backup power reserves while creating opportunities for participants to receive compensation through qualifying grid-support programs.
The goal is to help make resilience investments more affordable while ensuring homeowners remain prepared during emergency situations.
Yes. Benefits Assessments & Insurability Forecasts are offered at no cost through participating insurance partners and community programs.
No. Insurance premiums, underwriting decisions, and eligibility are determined by individual insurance carriers. The assessment is intended to help homeowners better understand opportunities that may improve preparedness and long-term insurability.
Yes, but this investment can be financed 100% and it is generally offset completely by subsidies, incentives, and potential electricity savings.
Savings will range depending on home age, size and location. Generally the net savings (and potential revenue from VPP program noted above) will cover most if not all of your homeowners insurance premiums and get you access to a heavily subsidized Class A fire-rated roof replacement.
The Fund believes insurance professionals play an important role in helping homeowners understand the connection between preparedness, property protection, and long-term insurability. By partnering with participating insurance professionals, the Fund can provide homeowners with access to trusted local advisors who understand the unique challenges facing California homeowners.
